CBD Oil & CBD Tinctures - What's The Difference?

The Difference Between CBD Oil & CBD Tinctures

You’re one click away from hitting “Add to Cart” when the words strike you with uncertainty: “CBD Oil…but then this other one says CBD tincture. I don’t get it?” Fear not, and proceed as you were! Ultimately, you are getting what you’re intending to with both names, but there are slight differences. We’ll get into that today.

As the CBD industry has exploded with popularity, so have the variations of products available, sometimes making it feel hard to keep up with. If you or someone you know has ever been personally victimized by the confusing labels differentiating CBD products, Vena is here to clear that up for you.

Let’s break things down simply - we’re looking at the difference between the two terms “CBD oil” and “CBD tincture.” These two labels are often used interchangeably, which is where things may get blurry. Both products are typically sold in small bottles with dropper tops (sometimes spray tops) that are absorbed under your tongue, or even into a drinking beverage.

But What Exactly Is the Difference?

So they sound similar, but what’s the difference? To put it shortly, CBD tinctures are a CBD solution with an alcohol base, while CBD oil is a CBD solution with a carrier oil as a base, like MCT (coconut oil) or hemp seed oil.

A high-quality CBD product first starts out with high quality hemp, where the plants are harvested for their leaves, flowers, and stalk thanks to their high concentration of CBD (which of course, we love. Yes, please!) The process of making a CBD oil begins by soaking the organic hemp plant matter in a solvent like carbon dioxide (CO2), allowing for the CBD from the plant to be extracted. If this makes it any easier to picture, it’s like bartenders soaking fruit in alcohol. The alcohol will absorb much of the fruits’ essence and become infused, just like the solvent becomes infused with CBD from inside the plant. After the tincture has been infused over time and has reached the desired level of strength, it can be sent right to the strainer to separate the plant matter left behind and then bottled up. Voila! You now have a CBD tincture, with an alcohol base. To make a CBD oil, the extracted CBD would then be blended with a carrier oil such as MCT (coconut) or hemp seed oil. Don’t stress too much about which base is better - ultimately, you’re getting the same therapeutic properties, just perhaps in different doses.

A Little About CBD Tincture & Oil

While alcohol-based CBD tinctures make for a less oily option and can be easily flavored, CBD oils make for an attractive option because of their convenience. Oils blend well in drinks and food items, and don’t have an alcohol base. One of the most notable benefits of a CBD oil over a tincture is that rather than having to soak the entire plant in solvent, which also results in the presence of other compounds like THC and terpenes (that have psychoactive properties), CBD oil can be made from just the isolated CBD compound. For CBD users far and wide looking to avoid THC, this makes CBD oil a desirable option.

When CBD is extracted, it is of course an utmost priority to create a product that delivers consistent results. This is why you will find CBD oils of different strengths, as they are strategically blended with oils to maintain and deliver specific strengths of CBD. The most common oils blended with CBD, which are MCT (coconut) and hemp seed oil, both blend extraordinarily well without diluting the beneficial effects of CBD. Vena’s CBD Oil Tincture is a premium grade blend of 99% CBD isolate and MCT Coconut Oil. All of our CBD products are guaranteed to contain 0% THC, and each and every product that leaves the facility is third-party tested to ensure consistency and quality.

About Vena CBD Oil & Tincture

Each Vena Tincture contains 30 (1mL) servings that are enjoyed sublingually by leaving it under your tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing. Don’t worry - if you aren’t too big on the idea of dropping CBD oil under your tongue, they are just as safe and effective when added to any drinkable beverage. With easy control over how much of a dropper you use, Vena CBD Oil Tincture is blended in different strengths ranging from 500mg up to 3000mg, allowing for your product of choice to be tailored to your specific needs in terms of CBD strength needed.

Truly, one of the most beautiful things about CBD is how universal it is. For some, a high-concentration dose of CBD is their only breath of fresh air that makes their hard days manageable. For others, a low-dose of CBD is just the right boost they need for daily wellness. It all comes down to being informed and educated about what the best method of CBD consumption is for your personal needs.
