Motherhood: How to Find your Balance

Hey Moms, whether this is a brand new journey or you have a few kids, you most likely ask yourself, how do I balance having kids and finding time for myself? How do I balance taking care of my family and my house? How do I balance a relationship with my partner and being a mom? If you are stumped, fear not! In this article, we explore the challenges that mothers inevitably face and offer different ways to work towards balance within parenthood. 

 

The Challenges of Motherhood

Adjusting to Motherhood is one of the most difficult transitions you will make in your life. Moms juggle soccer drop offs, cooking dinner, bedtime, bathtime, their jobs and still manage to pull off pinterest worthy birthday parties. How do they do it? Yes, we think Mothers have superpowers, but the reality is, they are still human! And “doing it all” or finding perfect balance everyday just isn’t feasible. There are, however, many ways to work towards balance and peace.

 

Ways to Shift Towards Balance

As with all parenting advice, only you know what is right for your family. Balance looks different for every Mother. If you are struggling to find peace within parenthood, check out some of the ideas below to shift towards balance.

 

Adjust Your Expectations

The pressure to cook healthy meals for your kids, stay romantic with your partner, maintain a clean home and of course parent without mistakes is monumental! Try not to put too much pressure on yourself to “do it all.” Try to adjust your expectations and be okay with releasing the pressure to keep up a pace that might not serve you. Life is a journey that moves at a different pace for everyone, and it’s important to pace ourselves for the long run.

 

Don’t Forget about Self-love

When you’re spending every moment of your day trying to take care of someone wholly dependent on you, it’s easy to forget about taking care of yourself. As isolating as motherhood can feel, it can simultaneously feel like your solo time has flown out the window. Every day, nourish yourself by fitting in some little self-love. That might look like a short walk alone, listening to your favorite music, or taking a bath with our CBD soaking salts. Showing up for yourself will only make you a better Mom!

 

Sometimes You’ll Feel like a Failure (but you AREN’T)

Some days you’ll feel like supermom, and some days you’ll feel like a failure. Firstly: you are NOT a failure! This is a 24 hour a day 7 day a week job, it’s impossible to do everything right. You will make mistakes. Accept when things are harder than you thought they would be, take a deep breath and keep going. Remember that everything you’re doing to raise your family is amazing. You are capable and so strong!

 

Stop Comparing Yourself to Other Mothers

In the world of Instagrams perfect Mothers, it’s difficult not to compare yourself to others. This can be detrimental to your mental health and ability to find peace in this new role! Remember that a lot of what we see on Instagram isn’t authentic, or is filtered to look one way when reality is actually something different. Your journey is yours alone, and you are doing a great job.

Try to Stay Present

Living in the present moment is a state of active and intentional attention to the present moment instead of jumping backwards to the past or worrying about the future. It helps alter habitual responses by allowing us to pause and choose how to act. Being a parent means there are constant “what ifs” and reasons to stress. Staying present will cause you to enjoy all of the beautiful things happening in your motherhood journey instead of fretting about what could happen.

 

Get Help When you Need Help

This looks different for every Mama. Are house chores piling up and feel impossible to complete? Get some help from your partner/kids or if possible, hire some clean up help! Take advantage of friends/neighbors/family that want to help… it takes a village.
