Things You Didn't Know about Your ECS (Endocannabinoid System)

ECS, or the Endocannabinoid System, is a natural biological system in your body that plays a crucial role in health and wellness. If you’re not familiar with the system, don’t worry, you are not alone! We dive into 5 surprising facts about the ECS to familiarize you with this powerful biological system.

Cannabinoids are a group of chemical compounds that can be found in hemp plants, and the human body. Endocannabinoids are produced in the human body. Phytocannabinoids are found in plants. Synthetic Cannabinoids are manufactured manually.

In the ECS, neurotransmitters called cannabinoids bind with cannabinoid receptors, affecting the nervous system and regulating many critical bodily functions. The ECS consists of these receptors that play a vital role in regulating many functions in your body such as motor regulations, pain sensations and sleep. There are two main types of receptors in your ECS known as the CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors are like “locks” and cannabinoids are like “keys.” When parts of the body are “off,” cannabinoids can be introduced to bring your body back to a balanced state.

  • The Endocannabinoid System is the Bridge Between Your Mind and Body

  • Endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors can be found throughout your whole body, in fact, cannabinoids are thought to be the most numerous receptor in your entire body, making them a bridge between body and mind. Your immune system, brain, and organs all work together to communicate within the ECS, effectively creating a bridge to give cells instructions on how and where to restore balance in the body.

  • All Mammals Have an Endocannabinoid System

  • From your pet to the pasture, all mammals have endocannabinoid systems. New research into cannabinoid receptors in animals is evolving to show the connection between human and mammal regulatory systems. We’re not so different after all!

  • It is Possible to Have an Endocannabinoid Deficiency

  • It is possible to have a deficiency in your ECS, this can be due to environmental factors and age that may cause you to lose cannabinoids and/or cannabinoid receptors. It is important for your Enndocannabinoid system to be functioning optimally for balanced health and wellbeing.

  • The ECS Plays a Huge Role in Balance

  • The Endocannabinoid System helps regulate your cell functions and restore balance throughout the body.  The significance of this role cannot be downplayed. While environmental stressors can put your body out of whack, cannabinoids work to balance critical functions like sleep cycles and pain receptors. Balance is key to whole-body health.

  • The Endocannabinoid System is a Recent Scientific Discovery

  • Believe it or not, the entire ECS was only formally discovered by science in the 1990s. This breakthrough in the scientific community allowed scientists and healthcare professionals to better understand how balancing cell function plays a fundamentally role in wellness.
