Superfoods - 5 Ingredients to Boost Immune Health

As the seasons change, do you feel sluggish, sniffly or just plain sick? Is stress leaving you feeling drained or exhausted? Us too. Our immune systems get overburdened with high stress, low nutrient food and a lack of self-care.

There are a lot of ways to strengthen your immune system and what you ingest is an important one! No single food or herb can offer all of the nutrients, energy and health benefits we need to nourish ourselves and thrive. However, there are a few foods that can definitely be singled out for their significant health benefits and immune support. Let’s talk about “superfoods”!

What is a “Superfood”?

Unfortunately, your food is not going to be wearing a miniature cape. Superfoods offer amazing nutrients that can healthily get us through seasons changing and life’s ups and downs. These nutrient rich foods are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

5 Superfoods We Love

Superfood adaptogens and botanicals have been used for centuries to balance the body. We try to incorporate them into our functional blends to maximize the amount of benefit our products can deliver to your daily health and wellness. Below are some of the superfoods we’re currently crushing on to keep us healthy and thriving:

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is an ancient medicinal herb and an adaptogen. Adaptogens are natural healers that work to promote bodily balance. It works by reportedly helping to manage the body’s stress hormone cortisol, leading to more calm, greater mental clarity, and less stress.

Elderberry

Elderberry has become more popular over recent years. This deep-purple berry is an antifungal, antibacterial AND antimicrobial. It most often comes in a syrup (if you want your kitchen to smell heavenly, check out a DIY recipe here). Elderberries are great for helping to maintain normal, healthy immune system functioning.

Reishi

Reishi is another adaptogen. Reishi is a red-capped mushroom that helps balance hormones and boosts the immune system. It has been called “the divine mushroom of immortality” which we think is a pretty impressive title.

Ginger

You’ve probably heard that ginger helps an upset tummy but it can also help boost your immune system health. This versatile (and spicy) plant has many uses, grab a ginger shot if you are feeling under the weather, sip on a ginger tea or add more ginger to your cooking!

Echinacea

Echinacea - also known as Purple Coneflower - is another wonderful immune booster when you aren’t feeling too hot. This Meta-analysis, concluded that echinacea could reduce the risk of a cold up to 35%! Right when you feel that tickle in the back of your throat, reach for your echinacea. Take it as a tincture or in a delicious tea.

Immune Health Love

Superfoods are a versatile way to support your whole body health. Healthy looks different for everybody, but there are many different ways to prioritize your health and wellness. Think about incorporating some of these superfoods and herbs into your diet to aid in your immune response. Don’t forget to stay hydrated, get adequate sleeping, engage in moderate exercising and manage your stress levels too. You are on your way to a super immune system reboot!
